Union City baseball built significant momentum in 2025, finishing with a 13–12 record and earning sectional and regional championships under Coach Jeff Wendel. The journey ended at the Semistate semifinal round, but the season showcased steady improvement and stronger team cohesion.

Wendel, originally from Ohio, joined Union City after serving as assistant during the 2024 campaign, when the program secured its first regional crown. His approach places consistent emphasis on mental performance. Wendel notes that helping athletes prepare mentally — especially under pressure — is one of his key strengths. He explains that clear thinking and emotional control directly influence how players respond in competitive moments.

A major challenge early in the year was trust. Wendel shared that the team initially struggled with supporting one another and committing fully to the group. Over the season, players began adopting a team-first mindset, helped by Wendel’s “DAWG mentality,” built on Determination, Availability, WIN (“What’s Important Now”), and being Great teammates.
